Tiger Woods won here at the 1997 Asian Classic. So too did Vijay Singh, taking the Johnnie Walker Super Tour in 1999.

Numbers one and two in world golf, for Woods and Singh to win at the Thai Country Club demonstrates the caliber of the course. The 21-year-old Woods who is part-Thai took the Asian Classic by 10 clear shots at 20-under-par, whilst Singh edged out another legend of global golf, Ernie Els at the Johnnie Walker in 1999, evidence of what it takes to win over the track regularly voted, 'Best Course in Thailand'. "The Thai Country Club is in the best condition of any golf course I have ever played in Asia", was the Ernie Els verdict after finishing second to Singh.

Redesigned by golf course 'guru' Dennis Griffiths and opened on 1st December 1996, the 7,052-yards, par-72 Thai Country Club layout will provide a fitting challenge for the finest golfers on the Asian Tour. Voted last year by Asian Golf Monthly as 'Best Golf Course in Thailand', and 'Best Clubhouse in Asia', the Thai Country Club, the 205-yard par-3 sixth hole was voted 'Best par-3 in Asia,' by the same publication in 2002 / 2003.

Meanwhile, on the back nine, the toughest hole on the golf course, the gigantic 600-yard par-5 14th will test even the biggest hitters on the Asian Tour. Laid out in two distinct nines, and protected by woodland and water, sand and rough, the Thai Country Club provides some of the best standards and biggest challenges in Asian golf, one of the reasons it was selected to host the 2005, 2006 and 2007 Volvo Masters of Asia.

Thai Country Club is a joint venture between the Phataraprasit Group and The Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels Limited. The Phataraprasit Group is a Thai business conglomerate with extensive business interests in the north of Thailand primarily in the distilling business.

From that core the group expanded its interests into banking, ceramics, property development, investment and retailing. The Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited was originally incorporated in Hong Kong stock exchange. The principle business of the company is the ownership and management of luxury hotels, such as The Peninsula Hotels, prime residential and commercial property and club management and consultancy services.
